Hatchling surprises

This year, we got a cluch which since the beginning drove us from surprises to surprises. We bought to a friend one of his females which bred during the reproduction period but didn't lay anything till that moment...

What a surprise when she laid 4 eggs beginning of September. Indeed this cluch was very late and nobody was waiting for it.

Among the 4 eggs laid, one was particularly small and also hard on at least half of its volume. We all the same decided to place him into the incubator next to the others even if we had some doubts regarding the hatchling of a python. The egg did not waste away and we wondered what size could be the baby hatchling, if a baby hatched one day!

On the 11th and 12th of November 2008, one of the eggs hatched. Impatient, we decided to open the small egg... A baby alive seemed to be there! Few days later, whereas all the other babies hatched, we had the pleasure to see a "micro" head emerging from the smaller egg.

On the balance, the weight of both egg and baby snake was 28g! We were not that much surprised when put alone on the balance, the baby snake weight was only 18g!

It seems, after discusions with friends breeders, that this snake, growing, would normally be as big as his brothers (we only had males in this cluch). Future will tell us more about this...

Third surprise linked to this cluch, one egg was housing twins, rare case enough to be shared! Twins weight respectively 22 and 26g... and do not have the same phenotype.

Eggs transparency

Even if it is not a scoop, we thought it was interesting enough to be shared with you.

?We got a cluch within which one egg had a part of its shell transparent.

The result was that well before hachting, we were able to observe the baby moving inside his egg! As if he was rubbing himself against a tracing paper.

On the photos we took, you can see the yellow spot located on the sides of the baby Python.
